ak z ruín vecí, či žil si len pre ne, zodratou dlaňou začneš tvoriť znova,
ak dokážeš dať výhry na hromádku a staviť všetko na jeden ťah kariet,
prehrať a začať znova od začiatku a slova o tej strate neprevravieť,
ak dokážeš dať povel srdcu, svalom, nech slúžia ďalej, aj keď odumreli,
kráčať, keď nič už v tebe nezostalo, len vôla, ktorá vydržať im velí,
ak udržíš si hrdosť, vraviac k davu, prostotu zasa kráľmi obklopený,
ak nezohne ti hnev či priazeň hlavu, ak napriek úcte nik ťa neprecení,
ak vtesnáš pritom do minúty prísnej, šesťdesiat sekúnd behu z celej sily,
tvojou sa stane Zem i poklady z nej a bude z teba človek, syn môj milý!
